Okay, you want the rundown.
In FFIV, the hero marries the female lead and they assume the throne of a country which lost its royalty over the events of the game.
The After Years has their son as the main character.
After Years is on the DS, and it's following up on FFIV being released on the DS. Just before that, it was on the GBA.
Is that more information for you?

He jumps like a damned dragoon, and charges into battle fighting rather insane monsters with little more than his bare hands and rather nasty spell effects conjured up solely through knowledge and the local plantlife. He unerringly knows where his goal lies, he breathes underwater and is untroubled by space travel, seems to have no limits to his actual endurance and favors killing his enemies by driving both boots square into their skull. His agility is unmatched, and his strength legendary, able to fling about a turtle shell big enough to contain a man with enough force to barrel down a near endless path of unfortunates.

torrented the old doom games (Doom II, Final Doom, Ultimate Doom) a bit ago, and have been playing through those. I'm currently working through Doom 2 with the godmode on, just enjoying the experience of going through for the first time and taking out monsters with impunity. I'm actually somewhat surprised at how fucking complex some of the damned levels are...

Doom would auto-aim upwards and downwards for you. It also had certain weapons that would angle towards enemies, such as the plasma rifle.PhoneLobster wrote:Back in the day I completed doom 1 and doom 2 on nightmare. No cheating, of course.
I had an unnatural knack with those games. No idea why. I suck fairly badly at most FPS games. Unless I'm capturing flags or something, then I win, I just can't shoot for crap.
Also, yes Prak, Doom has some very complex levels. ID software has always had some of the best level designers in the business. Quake and Quake 2 also has some very well made levels.

I know that and still find no reasonable explanation of it. Maybe it was the whole thing where it was all keyboard.
And plasma gun? Bah, on nightmare you barely had the ammo. Every chance I got I was all about the shot gun. Single barrel of course. Plasma guns were saved for certain enemies, rockets for bosses.

DoS Box might be able to help you out. Problem is, you'd have to make a folder and mount it as the C drive for Dos Box and some other stuff.

Warning: DosBox seems to have trouble with folder names that contain spaces.

Yeah, the shotty really was the workhorse gun in Doom.
Oh, have you guys heard about the new Blood Bowl game that's coming out?
It sort of looks like it came out overnight, I hadn't heard a single thing about it until I saw it on Penny Arcade. Right now it looks like it's very well made.

It's made by these French guys who already made it.Judging__Eagle wrote:Oh, have you guys heard about the new Blood Bowl game that's coming out?
Does that make sense?
They made a blood bowl clone called "Chaos League" I have a copy, I didn't like it that much but it IS very blood bowl from it's style and teams right to the mechanics of it (even if you play it in the real time mode).
Then GW took legal action against them while they were developing Chaos League 2.
Then they settled out of court and somehow walked away with the official franchise.
And now... Blood Bowl the official computer game. If you really are a blood bowl fan I expect you will like it, or you could go dig up a copy of Chaos League in the bargain bins if you can't wait.
Okay, got the PS2. Bought a memory card and a game today.
The games are...
God of War
Shadow of the Colossus
Final Fantasy XII
Final Fantasy X-2
Odin Sphere (the one I bought today).
Not sure about X-2, but, oh well, I like looking at pretty CG'd women in skimpy clothes as much as the next guy.

Doom: look for DoomRL. It's a RogueLike. In Doom. It's the only RL I've ever beaten without cheating, and even then, only once. On Easy.
FFX-2: try to get Scan, Scan II and Scan III as soon as you can. That way you can scan your own team members, and rotate/zoom the camera however you like. Keep in mind that bit about skimpy clothes. Good times.
Oh, and the massage minigame is pretty funny. Also, Death Knight is an awesome class, and against Yojimbo you want to either have a couple of Samurai (for the "I have 1 HP, you now take 9998 damage!" ability) and 1 Healer, or just have a Samurai throw HEAPS of money at him.
Note that the way to win hard fights in FFX is to summon Yoimbo and throw heaps of money at him.

There was an official Blood Bowl game back in '95. It was eye-bleedingly terrible. Let's hope these new guys don't manage to screw up fantasy-violence-ball.PhoneLobster wrote:And now... Oh, yeah, Doom & Quake are incredibly well designed. They are probably one of the few games that I am acquainted with some of the designers with. Not with Carmack or Romero or Mcgee directly. But I knew some of the lesser designers and their kids at that time. I did some last-minute beta at that time for them. I still suck at fps games but not as much as I did back then. But it was fun.Judging__Eagle wrote:Doom would auto-aim upwards and downwards for you. Yeah, id at quake & quake 2 greatness was one of the better game companies around in my opinion. If you look at SMU's The Guildhall at SMU. It was started by a lot of the dallas gaming mafia ex-employees. In the beginning, I remember noting a few of from id , 3d realms and Rogue but it's been a while.

Update: God of War's pretty good. For some reason, the corpseburner outside of Pandora's Temple struck me as hilarious. He was so jaded, it was funny. Ulyaoth from Eternal Darkness could have taken lessons from this guy.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ul-pdioXqj8 (Ulyaoth's version of the cutscene starts at 1:45).
I'm also through most of the 4th book on Odin Sphere. And now that I'm not having to learn the game, I'm kicking ass.
Made a start on Final Fantasy 12, but it's only a start.
Haven't tried Shadow of the Colossus or FFX-2.

Did you grind early on through the game?Maxus wrote: I'm also through most of the 4th book on Odin Sphere. And now that I'm not having to learn the game, I'm kicking ass. .
release and absorb and until there isn't any of the XP stuff to be gained on the level. You'll level you'll characters way too quickly. Some of your characters have that gain half as much xp or mana quality that helps you with this.
Ancient History wrote:We were working on Street Magic, and Frank asked me if a houngan had run over my dog.
Actually, I didn't do much grinding. I mean, I went back through some places, but I also bought a Spirit Stone early on, which means that since I'm at the beginning of the the last chapter, my character's Psypher is level 41. I was in the 30's when I beat the boss the last time.
But, yeah, I know I'm overleveled. Seriously, a full combo can put a hurting on bosses; I can clear out crowds of enemies by just using Cyclone. And if I double the attack power and use Shadow Ally...I'll be lagging horribly, but I won't care because I'll be taking out whatever I'm fighting in one or two combos.
But part of it is experience. F'rinstance, I now know that on a high-difficulty stage, I should get all the enemies on one side of me and use Cyclone. I know that all minibosses can jump. I know the little twirling lava dudes in the fire stage explode when they die.
I also leveled up my health with ordinary food to a point, then ground a couple of recipes, then used the variations a couple of times.
It's been some....seven hours playing time? And I know probably an hour of that was the game being paused while everybody in the world bothers me.
I also know some of the tricks. I died a lot the first time I fought Odin. When I fought him in later chapters, I realized I could knock one of his attacks back at him. So I used it this time.
And it helps that I keep getting dramatically appropriate critical hits. I wiped out about 3/4 of Leventhan's lifebar in one critical hit which happened when I had that 2x attack power ability on.

I knew something was up. The game looked like it's already complete, but development was not only not even rumoured, but not even hinted at anywhere that I've seen. Until now.
In any case, anyone who likes violence, sports, and monsters can probably appreciate Blood Bowl.
Also, what didn't you like about the Quake games? Compared to say, Doom? or an other FPS?

I used to play the first Quake religiously, way back when. But all I can remember now is a blur of green, brown, and triple-barreled shotguns.
